The Brighton Community Band was founded in 2018 and remains open to musicians of all skill levels. Adults of all ages and students grades 7-12 are welcome to join.
We rehearse at Brighton High School* in Rochester, New York on Tuesday evenings (7-8:30pm) in "seasons" -- Spring, Summer*, and Fall. Each season typically lasts 7-8 weeks and consists of approximately six rehearsals and one evening concert. In the summers*, we perform outdoors (weather permitting). In the spring and fall, we perform in the newly renovated Brighton High School Auditorium.
While the majority of our musicians tend to stick around and become "regulars," we ask that everyone re-register for each season so we can anticipate our exact instrumentation and plan accordingly. Musicians must attend at least four rehearsals to perform in a season's concert.
Repertoire ranges from the traditional canon to pops music to contemporary pieces. The level of difficulty of most of our pieces is around a NYSSMA level 4-5 (easy-to-medium High School level) . There is no participation fee and all concert band instruments are welcome.
*The summer season is held at Twelve Corners Middle School (TCMS). The summer concert is held in the TCMS Auditorium. If the weather is cooperative, the concert will be held on the TCMS Athletic Field (Winton Road side of building). Due to scheduled asbestos abatement projects scheduled in all BCSD buildings, there will be no Summer 2026 season of the Brighton Community Band.
A list of previously performed repertoire can be found here.
Please check back in September for more information and a link to register to play in the Fall 2026 season, which will start on or around October 20th or 27th.
